FAQ

We know that roof issues can seem daunting which is why we wanted to answer some common questions we receive. If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact us online.

  • Gutters

    • How can I tell if my gutters aren't draining properly?
During a rainfall, if you can hear the water slapping the ground, pouring over the sides of the gutter, there may be a blockage or the gutter itself may not be aligned evenly. If you notice paint peeling or corroded wood, the gutter is most likely clogged and is causing the water to overflow and run down the back of the gutter along the exterior walls of the house.
    • What are some reasons to replace my gutters?

Clogged gutters are one of the biggest causes of:

      • leaks, mold, and other foundation problems.
      • standing water in gutters can also attract mosquitos.
      • dented gutters or may be pulling away from your home due to the extra weight.
  • Skylights

    • What can you do about a leaking skylight?
As a general rule, any skylight that is over ten years old is probably best replaced, rather than spending money to try and have it repaired. Skylights are usually fairly inexpensive, but the labor to have them properly repaired or replaced can be. For that reason, we often replace old skylights with new products that we can guarantee will be leak-free for many years.
    • Is it bad if my skylight has condensation issues?
On older skylights, the thermal glass was not nearly as efficient as the glazing on new skylights. Condensation is generally a winter-time problem; however, it often indicates that the thermal insulation in the skylight has failed to allow heat to leave the house. This often translates into complaints about too much heat coming from a skylight in the summertime. If you notice any of these issues, it might be a good idea to upgrade to a new skylight.
  • Roofing

    • When is the best time of year to replace a roof?

There is no official “roofing season," but summer and fall are usually the busiest months for roofing contractors in Southern California. Weather conditions like rain and high wind can impact how quickly roofers can safely and effectively get your roof finished, which is why dryer, warmer months are ideal to replace a roof.

    • How do I know if I need a new roof?
It can be hard to tell, unless if you have a hole in your roof or can see major leaks. If your roof is more than 12-15 years old, it may be time to get a replacement and get ahead of any problems that result from a damaged roof. Other signs it’s time to replace your roof are curling shingles, lots of broken tiles, or discolored ceilings and walls.
    • What does a roof inspection include?

While an interior roof inspection includes checking the attic for proper insulation, ventilation, as well as moisture and mold, an exterior inspection includes climbing up on the roof and checking for leaks and proper flashing, as well as the condition of your shingles and chimney.
